With Michigan projected to place some of the most bets on Super Bowl weekend, the Attorney General and the Executive Director of the MGCB has called on Michiganders to bet responsibly and protect themselves from predatory platforms.

A University of Michigan study has shown that parents lack awareness about teenage online gambling habits. The study revealed that parents did little to talk to their children about betting and barely knew their state’s legal gambling age.

The Plymouth Township Board and Planning Commission have both met to rescind the bid for the relocation of the Northville Downs track due to failure of the racetrack owners to meet stipulated conditions by the community.

Michigan has emerged from 2023 with the second highest online casino revenue nationwide and the second largest revenue per capita in the US. However, it sits outside the top 10 of states for online sports betting handle and revenue.

Michigan sportsbooks accepted a record $613.4 million in wagers in December 2023, with $583 million worth of bets coming from mobile platforms. This handle, coupled with a 10.7% hold, led to a record-breaking combined $65.9 million revenue.

Michigan online casinos ended 2023 by smashing the existing monthly and annual revenue records. The state generated $181.4 million in December 2023 and totalled $1.96 billion throughout the year. Five casino operators also set monthly revenue records.

Governor Whitmer has reappointed two members of the Michigan Gaming Control Board to serve for an additional four years. The two members, Joni Davis and Andrew Palms will remain on the Board till Dec. 31, 2024.

The Michigan Gaming Control Board has announced Feb. 3 as the final race day for Northville Downs, with the racetrack set to cease operations after 80 years. This comes few days after two live races were canceled due to a snowstorm.

In addition to the already announced PokerStars US Winter Series, there are other poker tournaments coming to Michigan. Some events to watch out for includes the WSOP.com Circuit Series and daily poker tournaments.

Detroit casinos rallied after a strike-plagued year to report $116.4 million in December. Slots and table games fueled this comeback with $111.4 million in revenue, while sports betting, which also saw gains, generated a handle of $30.4 million.
