Despite a tough 2023 from a revenue perspective, BetMGM Casino Michigan ended the year as the operator with the largest gaming library in the Great Lakes State. This year, BetMGM is looking to even expand its catalog all the more with exclusive slot titles. On Monday, January 8, the casino announced that it would be the exclusive provider of Star Trek: The Next Generation, a slot by Atlantic Digital.

Michigan players can now head over to BetMGM Online Casino for a taste of the exclusive action. The game draws inspiration from the popular media franchise of the same name and incorporates similar characters.

Star Trek Slot Emerges as Second Game from BetMGM-Atlantic Digital Deal

Back in September 2023, BetMGM signed a landmark exclusive partnership deal with Atlantic Digital. This agreement meant BetMGM Casino became the sole provider of all Atlantic Digital game releases across the US.

Atlantic Digital is a London-based supplier that burst onto the scene in 2021. The studio focuses on adapting film and TV into exceptional slot game titles. Last September, it launched Godfather, a slot inspired by the movie of the same title. This game was the first to come into Michigan from the partnership between BetMGM and Atlantic Digital.

Star Trek: The Next Generation is the second game to hit the US as a result of this partnership.

“We are delighted to launch our second slot with BetMGM and it doesn’t get much bigger than Star Trek. We are very proud of this game and we have no doubt it will go intergalactic,” said Sam Hobcraft, CEO of Atlantic Digital. “Building on our already deep relationship with BetMGM, this is the start of many big titles to come in 2024. In the words of Picard, ‘Make it so, Number one.'”

BetMGM Hopes Media Franchise Popularity Will Attract More Players

Star Trek: The Next Generation features a 5x5 slot grid as well as 3,125 paylines on which to land winning combos. Some symbols drawn from the movie franchise include Captain Jean-Luc Picard, USS Enterprise, William Riker, Deana Troi, Worf and Data. Players will also find the playing card icons 10 through to A as the lower-paying symbols.

“Star Trek is one of the biggest media franchises of all time. We are honored to expand its universe to iGaming. Star Trek: The Next Generation is a bonus-feature filled game that players will love. It is another perfect addition to our ever-growing library of games that can’t be found anywhere else in the United States,” BetMGM Vice President of Gaming Product & Content Oliver Bartlett said in a press release

The game promises a theoretical RTP of 94.35%, although this may increase to 94.49% with the many bonus features. Speaking of bonuses, the slot has a respin bonus and a Warp Speed wheel as part of its gameplay elements. For even better wins, players can enjoy the cascading reels and free spins features, too.

Louie Theros Takes Up New Role as President of MGM Springfield

Elsewhere, the retail casino arm of BetMGM is undergoing some administrative reshuffling.

Louis “Louie” Theros, a former executive at MGM Grand Detroit is now the president of MGM Springfield Casino & Resort in Massachusetts.

Since his employment at MGM Grand Detroit about nine years ago, Louie has served in various capacities. He was formerly the vice president and legal counsel at MGM Grand Detroit. Currently, he is the mayor of Grosse Pointe Farms, a position he is expected to vacate very soon to head the second-largest casino in Massachusetts.

Theros will be replacing Chris Kelley, another very experienced gaming industry leader who is retiring to his family in California.

While announcing this promotion, Beth Ward, the MGM spokesperson revealed that “Louie has been literally hitting the ground running” in his new position.

MGM Springfield and MGM Grand Detroit are both the retail casino industry leaders in their respective states. During Louie’s time at MGM Grand Detroit last year, the retail casino averaged $49.5 million monthly, the most of any operator in the state. BetMGM Casino Michigan was also the number one operator by gaming library and revenue. However, while online casinos are legal in Michigan, they are not yet legal in Massachusetts.

Louie Theros has been in touch with the Massachusetts Gaming Commission and has familiarized himself with regulators in the state ahead of his full resumption.
